Who You Are In Christ - Part 3

Updated: Feb 28, 2021

Mark 16:15-20 (NKJV) says 'And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.' Authority is a part of who we are in Christ, but I cannot put everything about the authority of the believer in just one blog. But, you can see from the above scriptures, that the signs will follow those WHO BELIEVE. This is one of the keys. We MUST believe! Some of you may have noticed that I left one word out of the 20th verse of Mark 16, the word 'them'. It's because the writers inserted that word when the scripture was being interpreted, and that's why it's in italics. It's not in the original Greek text, and you need to get the full meaning. Notice, it says 'the Lord working with and confirming THE WORD'. Get it? As the disciples were teaching the word, the Lord was working with and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Hebrews 2:4 (NKJV) says 'God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?' You must know who you are in Christ to operate in the authority that has been given to each and every believer. Acts 14:3 (NKJV) says 'Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, WHO WAS BEARING WITNESS TO THE WORD OF HIS GRACE, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.' Now let's look at verses 9 & 10. 'This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!" And he leaped and walked.' Paul spoke with authority and commanded the man to stand up. There is so much that could be taught just out of these two verses, but I wanted you to grasp the authority that has been given to us. Luke 9:1-2 (NKJV) says 'Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.' And this was before the Lord was glorified! Just imagine the power that has been given to us through the precious blood of the resurrected Christ! Glory to God! Luke 10:19 (NKJV) says 'Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and OVER ALL THE POWER OF THE ENEMY, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.' I could just keep going, and give you scripture after scripture of the authority of the believer. The key is, believer. Even salvation comes from you believing and confessing. Romans 10:9-10 says 'that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one BELIEVES to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.'
