We Need the Holy Spirit

Jesus said something so very remarkable in John 16:7. He said 'Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.' Now remember that the disciples had spent over 3 years with Jesus, but He is saying that is was to their advantage if He went away. How could it be more profitable to the disciples than to have every need met instantly? How could it be more profitable for the Messiah to leave them? We find the answer in John 16:12. Jesus said 'I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.' So, even after spending 3 years with Jesus, there were some things that Jesus could not tell them yet because they just could not handle it. They needed to mature. The King James Version calls the Holy Spirit the Comforter. The Greek word is 'Paraclete' and it means 'one who comes alongside.' The Holy Spirit is meant to help us, not do it for us. He is our intercessor, standby, power, helper, comforter, counselor, strengthener and our advocate. We need the Holy Spirit to help us in to accomplish what the Father needs done on this earth. That all would come to know the salvation that is found in Jesus Christ. John 16:13-15 says 'However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.' Even the disciples were told by Jesus to stay in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high, and we find that in Luke 24:49. So, if it was more beneficial for the disciples to have the Holy Spirit, don't you think it would be beneficial for us today? Jesus is the gift from the Father to the world. The Holy Spirit is a gift from the Father to the believer. It is so easy to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Luke 11:13 'If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!' I praise God for the Holy Spirit because we need Him.
