There is One Body - Part 2

Ephesians 4:11-12 says 'And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.' Jesus gave SOME to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors and teachers. The five-fold ministry were put in place by the Lord Jesus Christ to equip the believers to be able to minister reconciliation in whatever communities they were placed. They were also put into place to edify the body of Christ. To minister comfort, exhortation and edification. Churches were established for training the body of Christ to teach others about salvation that has been made available to everyone on this planet. Not everyone is called to be an apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or a teacher. We do not choose this as a vocation, but it is a specific calling placed on us by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. 1 Corinthians 12:29 says 'Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles?' The reason for the five-fold ministry is found in Ephesians 4:13-16, where it says 'till we (the body) all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head - Christ - from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.' It's all about who we are in Christ, and that we are a part of His body. The head directs everything that the body does, and directs each action of every member of that body. The body is not in charge, but is lead completely by the head. We are the very hands, feet, arms, ears, eyes, fingers, toes, and mouth of Jesus Christ. It's time we looked like we were one IN Christ!
