The Fruit of the Spirit - Goodness

The definition of goodness is moral excellence, virtue, kindly feeling, or generosity. Psalm 100:5 says 'For the Lord is good; and His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.' We can show goodness to others by our actions. The Lord has shown us such kindly feelings and generosity by sending His very own Son to take our place and pay the full penalty for our transgressions. Colossians 3:12-13 says 'Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.' If Jesus Christ is Lord of your life, then there will be fruit that confirms the inward transformation. As you grow in Him, you will take on His very nature and it will draw others to the Lord. It's the very goodness of God that draws men to Him. Romans 2:4 says 'Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?' The Word tells us in Proverbs 3:27 'Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.' Galatians 6:10 says 'Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.' We can all do some good to those around us. Those we meet in the supermarkets, or wherever we may shop or work. But especially to our brothers and sisters in the faith. It's one of the things that separates us from this world. It's the character of Christ being formed in our lives, and it may be that through doing good to others, that people will notice something is different and will ask you why. Why did you do that? What an opportunity to witness about the goodness that was shown to you. Bear the fruit of goodness. Ephesians 2:10 says 'For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.' God has been very good to us. Let us be good to others.
