What is the purpose of the church? It's for people to come and hear the Word of God, and learn that God loves them beyond comprehension. The church is to train and disciple people according to what the Word of God says. We have done a great job teaching about Jesus; but have done a terrible job teaching what Jesus taught. It's about being conformed to Christ, and living our lives fully pleasing unto the Lord and being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10). Paul gave instruction in 2 Timothy 4:1-2 (TPT) by saying 'Timothy, in the presence of our great God and our Lord Jesus Christ, the One who is destined to judge both the living and the dead by the revelation of His kingdom - I solemnly instruct you to proclaim the Word of God and stand upon it no matter what! Rise to the occasion and preach when it is convenient and when it is not. Preach in the full expression of the Holy Spirit - with wisdom and patience as you instruct and teach the people.' The church must teach on sin, forgiveness, love and the consequences of disobedience. If the church doesn't abide by and hold dear what the Word of God says, then all it will ever be is a social club. James 3:1 says 'My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.' A Pastor is the steward of the body of Christ. He is an under-shepherd, and Jesus is the chief-shepherd. We will be held accountable for what we teach. We must teach the Word of God unashamedly, uncompromisingly, and with the passion and anointing of the Holy Spirit. It sets a strong foundation that Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:24-25 'Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.' When you have a strong foundation (built on Jesus), it will not fall. It's all about Jesus and what He did for us. Without Jesus, we can do nothing, and we are nothing. Rise up church, and understand that you are the body of Christ, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18)!
