Luke 6:46-49 says 'But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.' Here the Lord is talking about two different foundations. One that is built upon the rock (Jesus), and one that is not. It's that simple. If you do your research, you will find that if you build a strong foundation, then the house or building can withstand a tremendous beating and not fall. But if you build a house or building without a foundation and just place it on top of the earth, it will eventually collapse, and collapse with very little effort because there is nothing there to support the house. A strong foundation holds the house in place. It is firmly fixed and extremely hard to move. It can handle the storms, the beatings, and the shakings and the foundation is still holding the house. Jesus is our foundation, and if we can build our lives upon Him, then we can withstand the storms that will hit us; and we know that they will eventually hit us and some are severe. But with Jesus as our foundation, we are found to be still standing. If you do not have Jesus as your foundation, then everything will be lost. It may not seem like it in this life, but I will promise you this; if Jesus is not Lord of your life then all hope is lost. Romans 5:1 says 'Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.' Jesus is the believer's foundation, and is what holds us upright when everything around us is breaking loose. We can stand firm knowing that Jesus Christ is our firm foundation, and as the song 'The Solid Rock' says, 'On Christ the solid Rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.'
